With the application of network technology and the rise of knowledge management in the knowledge economy age, knowledge service has become the hot point of library research in 21st century. The contents of the service are diversified and the service measures surpass the limitation of time and space, for the concept of library has already broken through the range of traditional library architecture. Under this background, there is need for the library work to apply the idea of knowledge management to transforming from information service to knowledge service.The thesis consists of four chapters which discuss theory and practice of library knowledge management and knowledge service in detail. The first chapter introduces the background and the present research about library management both at home and abroad. The second chapter introduces the origin and meaning of knowledge management and especially its effects on the library work, such as management mode, service method, professional orientation. The third chapter analyzes the key factors that affect the implement of knowledge management, such as the library culture, organization structure, technology and the high leading's support and so on. According to the implement mode of library knowledge management, it puts forward the processes and strategies of knowledge management implement. And at last some cases are analyzed. The fourth chapter discusses some problems in transforming from knowledge management to knowledge service. Based on the analysis of library knowledge service mode, this thesis builds a platform of knowledge service by comparison of library knowledge service and information service. In order to improve the competence of knowledge service, we should employ the idea of knowledge management to instruct the knowledge service. The strategies which can help the knowledge service are as follows: to establish the idea of knowledge service, to realize the co-share of information resources and the co-building of the knowledge service system, to improve the quality and the service consciousness of knowledge service providers, to develop various increment service.
