Political journal refers to the periodical publication mainly on current affairs andpolitical news. The major concerns of such publications are political and economiccontents. After experiencing the "heavy bombardment" of metropolitan newspapersand news about people's life on TV, the rising middle class in China regard politicaljournal as more informative and aesthetic media. With its clear and specificorientation, penetrating and original viewpoint, panoramic mode of coverage, politicaljournal not only represents the combination of freshness and speculation, but standsfor the international standards as well.China's entry into WTO and its coming to the international standards improvethe development environment and increase the competition as well. In China, politicaljournal has to compete with each other and capture readers at the same time. Inaddition, with the strengthening of Chinese economy and the development of journalmarket, competitive publishers and groups with long history and strength are eager toenter China's market. China's huge market with great potential has become theprimary target of publications as Time, Newsweek, and Der Spiegel. In the process oftransformation, a core competence is also required for enterprise-operated model.Otherwise, it would be very hard for China's political journal to survive in intensemarket competition.This paper attempts to investigate the core competence of China's politicaljournals which have already become the principal part of market competition so as toanalyze the notion, characteristics and factors of China's political journals. It furtherexplores the ways of cultivating and establishing core competence of China's politicaljournal in order to utter its own voice against the background of globalization.The paper is divided into the following parts: In part one, the writer presents the purposes and significance of the paper anddefines the object of the study. Correlative studies on core competence are alsoreviewed.Part two serves as the introduction of the current studies of China's politicaljournals. In the mean time, it also specifies the classification and competition ofChina's political journals in the market.Part three analyzes the notion, connotation and features of core competence ofChina's political journals. It proposes such factors as the content, brand, culture,constantly innovational ability and talent.Part four mainly focuses on the discussion of the development and cultivationfor core competence of political journal. Perspectives and suggestions are alsoprovided to cultivating the above-mentioned factors of core competence.
