Research On Methods For Designing Business Processes Based On BPEL4WS

Web Service is a revolution technology on Internet. It is changing the way of interaction of the web from information-oriented to service-oriented. So e-commerce systems can utilize Web Service to implement the business process management within and among the enterprises, and extend the business processes to the whole Internet. In this way, the business processes can efficiently utilize the current Web Service in the Internet, and then strengthen the interactivity of Internet, finally make the Internet become an entity which integrating many web services. Thus there comes a new kind of business process, called web service business process.In order to standardize the business process management, Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI) makes a standard: Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). It's a core enabler in the architecture of business process management. It describes the upper entities needed to define processes, provides concepts, symbols and expression methods for process modeling. It can also map into Business Process Executable Language for Web Service (BPEL4WS). BPEL4WS is proposed by several large corporations like IBM, Microsoft. It is based on the syntax of XML, specifies the relation between business processes and web services. In addition, the business processes specified in BPEL4WS are fully executable, and they are portable between BPEL4WS conformant environments. It's also one kind of abstract, high-level languages, which can naturally describe the business process. Now BPEL4WS has been a standard.How to model and manage the web service business processes has been a hot research field. In this thesis, we first introduce the business process management, the state of its development, and discuss its advantages and disadvantages. Next analyze the relevant technology, including Web Service, web service business processes and business process management systems. After expatiating on BPMN and BPEL4WS, explaining the mapping rules between BPMN and BPEL4WS, we adopt the methods for designing Database, and propose one method for designing business processes based on BPEL4WS. The method includes four phases: requirements analyzing, concept design, logic design and the transformation from concept design to logic design. At last, we take use of business process modeling tools in PowerDesigner11.0 to model given web service processes.
