Channel coding is one of means to enhance the reliability of digital communications. As a member of channel coding, turbo codes have been the main subject of many research activities for their impressive near Shannon limit error correcting performance since their discovery. Turbo codes are a kind of parallel-concatenated convolutional codes, and the key principles of turbo codes are encoding using parallel concatenated recursive systematic convolutional codes separated by an interleaver and decoding using iterative maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoders employing soft information.Under the back of the MIMO-GMC wireless transmission technology proposed by B3G group in National Communication Research Laboratory (NCRL) of Southeast University, this dissertation first introduces the key encoding principles and iterative soft input soft output(SISO) decoding algorithm of turbo codes, and then makes a study of designing parameters of turbo codes, stopping criteria for decoding, channel SNR estimation algorithm, turbo decoding algorithm on Rayleigh channel and in turbo equlaization. Later, simulation results for turbo code are given. At last. according to the External Information Reserved approach and the joint iteration of detection and decoding used by the iterative receiver of the MIMO-GMC system, the design of turbo decoder using SW-Log-MAP algorithm is completed in this dissertation. The whole design is finished in Verilog HDL, and finally implemented on a Virtex II Pro device.
