Network management station is the main part of network management system, and it works most importantly in keeping network running stability, high-efficiency and quality of service. This thesis is based on "The Base Platform and Experimental System of High performance IPv4/v6 Router" which is part of China's 863 plan , and it is presented that the designment and implementation of asymmetric message switching mechanism in network management system's modules of high performance router in this thesis.The main contributions of this thesis were as follows:i) Did analyze the requirement and existed problem of message switching in network management system's modules. It is presented that the asymmetric switching fabric mechanism according to the problem of communication of the modules in network management station.ii) Did research on the main buffer mechanism about switching fabric. Two-stage buffer mechanism is presented in this thesis , which can avoid the defects of traditional mechanism. Furthermore, it is presented that the designment of buffer in input port and switching fabric.iii) Did research on the main queue scheduling algorithms in the major aspects: fairness, arithmetical complexity, delay. The Deficit Weighted Round Robin Scheduling (DWRR) is regarded as a more feasible algorithm than others. The DWRR not only thinks about the requirement of different services, but also attaches importance to the implementation. The defect of DWRR is that it could not do well in the service that requires low delay. So it is presented that an easily realizable algorithm whose name is Supporting Preemption Deficit Weighted Round Robin Scheduling (SP-DWRR). The algorithm is derived from DWRR and applied to the asymmetric switching fabric mechanism.iv) The implementation scheme is presented in this thesis based on the theoretic analysis, and it is satisfied that the different requirement of different functional modules. In conclusion, this scheme works well in the network management in practice.
