Monitoring and Managing Center for Construction Machinery is a good example in the field of Vehicle Monitoring System. It has an interest in more information of Construction Machinery, including various workstation data, GPS positioning information, and also the information on Construction Machinery Fleet. In this paper, a deep research in the design of Monitoring and Managing Center and the development of the monitoring software has been done.Firstly, the framework of Monitoring and Managing Center in whole is designed and realized, according to its three parts: wireless communication network, monitoring software and database. The material designing work is stated as follows:1) The different configrations of the three wireless communication networks are discussed based on the communication technology for GSM/GPRS/WLAN, and a final scheme is determined by analyzing the feasibility.2) By analyzing the functions to be realized, main function modules of the monitoring software are confirmed and the whole structure of the software is given.3) After an analysis on the information requirement called by Monitoring and Managing Center, the database is designed, including the chosen of database version, the structure of all the data tables and the relations between different tables.4) Distributing the software and hardware resource to Monitoring and Managing Center. Then, the three main subsystems of monitoring software are designed and implemented, they are Communication System, Geographic Information System and Management Information System. in turn. The development of Communication System is made up of three aspects: 1)Different communication process is designed for GSM, GPRS and WLAN, executing their connecting and treating transmitted data;2)The programs to realize the serial interface and TCP/IP network interface for basic communication are designed; 3)The program to deal with the receiving data is also designed, it realizes the parsing and saving of the data received, and is the same with those data using different communication protocol. The development of Geographic Information System begins with some basal designs, surrounded the GIS integration secondary develop technology, including the organization and management for map, modeling of objects to be monitored based on the characteristic of MapX module, and a discussion on the arithmetic for identifying geographic information. Then the design for its function modules: real-time monitoring and track replay is referred in details.The development of Management Information System begins with the design of its function modules: information maintenance and query about Construction Machinery. Then the ADO.NET data accessing technology—the key technology involved in the realizing of this system, is further studied. In order to solve the problem of database interface well, two patterns of data accessing: offline and online are finally created.
