During the 10th Five-Year Plan, China significantly increased its investment in infrastructure construction. As the necessary equipment for the construction, construction machinery plays decisive role in progress and quality of the project. However, because construction machinery is mostly open-air operations and subjected to wind and rain, the working environment is so poor that the breakdown is frequent. Meanwhile, the characteristics of construction requires more decentralize and strong liquidity. Therefore, we urgently need a remote monitoring system on the construction site of construction machinery to monitor the working conditions, timely identifying problems to ensure that the construction machinery can operating reliablely and continuously.This issue is proposed mainly based on the above problems. Its mission is designing a remote monitoring system of construction machinery based on GPRS, transmitting condition data to remote monitoring center wirelessly and making decision by monitoring center using the data. The system is mainly composed of three parts: scene controlling system, GPRS transmission network and remote monitor center. The scene controlling system accomplishes data collection, data processing and system control by DSP; GPRS network is in charge of wireless data transmission; Monitoring center achieves data monitoring by transmitting data with GPRS through the Implementation of VC++.According to above, the research topics included: the hardware and software design of scene controlling system, the sets of GPRS network and the software design of the remote monitoring center. The paper first introduces the background of the topic, then discusses the overall design of the system. After that the hardware design and the software design are shown in detail. At the end of the paper is the debug of the system.The research results indicate that the system is adapted to any construction mechinary. It can monitor the machine by view and modify the parameter to achieve early warning, timely maintenance and remote monitoring functions. The system has the feature of anti-interference capability, highly accuracy and real-time.
