Construction machinery is the essential construction equipment used in the construction of infrastructural facilities. During the period of China's Tenth Five-year Plan, with the increase of the national investment in the infrastructure field, the construction machinery trade enters into a fast developing stage, and the developing trend of project mechanical equipment in construction machinery is becoming more and more obvious. Meanwhile, the rental service of construction machinery is developing like a raging fire, the idea of "renting is better than buying" has been rooted in people's hearts. Under these circumstances, it is imperative to use information technology to perform the long-distance information interchange for production, management and after-sale services of mechanical equipment. Therefore it is of great practical significance to study the remote monitoring system in construction machinery.Firstly, aiming at the development actualities and problems of construction machinery monitoring systems in China and abroad, this thesis brings out the three-layer model of construction machinery monitoring system: front-unit control system, machine-used forepart monitoring system and remote monitoring center. Secondly, the thesis focuses on analyzing and studying the choices of remote network access technology and accessing model, designing a GPRS remote monitoring network scheme suitable for construction machinery trade. Thirdly, technologies concerned with digital pictures have been discussed for the purpose of image transmission, especially on the JPEG compiled code algorithm, which lays the theoretical foundation for the realization of the long-distance video monitoring system. Finally, based on these research results mentioned above, the thesis puts forward a kind of remote monitoring system in construction machinery based on GPRS, and successfully designs a managing software of remote monitoring center which is on the top level of this system. This center realizes centralized control and management for working construction equipments through GPRS network communication system, and offers Web service, connects the remote monitoring network with Internet, which can monitor the construction equipment to a wider range through the B/S (browser/server) mode.At present, the center has been experimented with other subsystems and machine-used forepart monitoring system in the laboratory. The result shows that the center has advantages like friendly man-machine conversation interface, convenient debugging and maintenance, high reliability, correct communications, a high communication speed to achieve the requirement of its applications, which also indicates the validity and application value of the present research results.
