The mass media study is one of the most important studies in contemporary communication studies. However, with the influence of American empiricism communication studies, modern mass media study mostly tends to analysis on empiricism and positivism, which lacks metaphysic thoughts as a result. This dissertation tries to explore the progress and relationships of mass media on the basis of contemporary western philosophy's "rationality" concept changes. This thesis covers three chapters: first, exploration of rationality enlightenment and non-rationality thoughts on the influence of mass media critical studies, second, exploration of mass media critical studies since twenty century's Franc school to post-modernism. , and the third, exploration of the differences and connections of critical schools and empiricism school in communication studies from the perspective of mythology.
