This thesis was focused on the construction and communication of city’s image by mass media. Through multiple research of city’s image and analysis of basic situation and future trend of media development, this thesis investigated the complex interaction and mutual relationship between mass media and the construction and communication of city’s image under the background of economic globalization, regional integration and media socialization in social and economic transition. This study attempts to provide effective ideas and theoretical thinking on the management and exploitation of the construction and communication of city’s image by mass media.This thesis interpreted and analyzed globalization, urbanization and the relationship between city’s image and media’s representation in the context of China’s transition by literature review and multiple knowledge systems and the theoretical framework.The following are the main content of this thesis:(1) The core issues and research significance of the paper was presented. The theoretical framework and research method was established by the theoretical review of relevant research at home and abroad.(2) The content, form and function of city’s image and their interaction with mass media was studied in-depth. The role and function of media in the representation of city’s image was also studied.(3) Practice of journalism and communication on the issues related to city’s image was deconstructed. Different dimensions of representation of city’s image was analyzed, concluded and summarized.(4) The strategies and methods of city’s image communication by mass media were demonstrated and studied in two situations:independent and financial supported by government.Generally speaking, the construction and communication of city’s image by mass media is a systematic process and structure. It is not only necessary to monitor, guide and manage the unintentional construction and communication of city’s image by media’s autonomic report, but also important to use mass media to construct and communicate city’s image. This is the best way to achieve the optimal effect on the construction and communication of city’s image by mass media.
