We are living in an information-oriented society. We can’t send or access anyinformation without communication, especially media, so does graphic designs.The interaction between graphic design and media never stops. Media has a veryimportant significance for the graphic design, it helps the spread of graphicdesign so that the content of graphic design become more effectively convey tothe audience, and make a certain extent reflects the graphic design. But at thesame time, media restricts graphic design in so many ways. Conversely, graphicdesign and media also has positive interaction which is different from the pastnew media emerged one of the engines. Herbert Spencer once called "graphicdesign" as "mechanized art", that indicates graphic design is a large-scalereplication of the production, and very inseparable from the mass media. Therapid development of mass media, newspapers and TV is driven by the rapid riseof the modern graphic design. The progress and development of graphic designis often linked with printing and copying technology development, theemergence of printing the print batch printing can be achieved, thus extendingthe scope and areas of its spread, and promote the rapid development of graphicdesign.This paper aims to study graphic design in the context of masscommunication. Graphic design can be spread by this analysis of its media. Inthe same time, designer can learn something from this study, and their field ofvision can be widened. Also, the development of graphic design can get across-border style. To study the graphic design in the context of masscommunication is a kind of research of interdisciplinary.I started this paper with study the relationship between graphic design andmedia to explore the linkages between the two disciplines. Then I analyzedseveral major media such as newspaper, magazines, television and Internet in thecontext of mass communication. I analyzed those media’s good side and bad side,and studied the individual form of graphic design such as layout design, CI design, etc. In conclusion, I put forward the idea of the choice of mixed mediabased the environment of the media convergence.We can find creative ideas in the cross section of two different disciplines,and arrange the existing research results so that new direction of graphic designcan be found.
