Privately-run book industry, which appeared since 1980s, has undergone a remarkable development in a short period of time. It has broken the book distribution frame used to be ruled by Xinhua Bookstore, and has become an essential part of China's book industry. Now privately-run book industry is encountering a new challenge because foreign funds will have the same right as civil funds in China's book distribution from Dec. 2006, which means it will have another opponent besides state-run book industry. As a result, privately-run book industry will have to compete with two book industries at the same time. This dissertation summarizes the four stages of the development of privately-run book industry, and analyzes the challenges and opportunities for themselves to develop according to the advantages and disadvantages of both state-run and privately-run book industry and the present situation of foreign funds. In the end, the dissertation proposed three countermeasures to solve the problems mentioned previously. |
