The national web platform of rock, mineral and fossil specimen resources is a subproject of the national sharing platform of nature and technology resources funded byMinistry of Science and Technology. This project focuses on collecting the digitizedprecious national distributed rock, mineral, fossil specimen resources based on thesharing mechanism and uniform standards. The application of the platform willprovide the world experts a good place for science communication, and it is also apopular science education base for the national fans who interest in rock, mineral andfossil specimen resources and teenagers. There are 32 common data fields designed to implement the management of thefossil specimen resources, rock specimen resources, mineral specimen resources, stone products specimen resources, ore specimen resources which will be submitted tothe national sharing platform of nature and technology resources providing theresource sharing services for the society. And also, there are many Personality of datafields designed describing the detailed characteristics of the specimen which providethe scientists and the public with more detailed information about specimen resources. Many complicated problems were resolved under the .Net environment during thedevelopment of the platform such as the joint with the national sharing E- platform ofnature and technology resources, complex text expression of the fossil Latin namesand crystal structures of minerals. The resource database management system andwebsite are already run by China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Institute ofVertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, China University of Geosciences(Wuhan), Institute of Mineral Resources of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciencesnow. The dissertation firstly introduces the technologies used in the systemdevelopment which include ASP.NET, ADO.NET, C# and so on. Then the needsanalysis, systems technology program and the methods of realizing are discussed, especially detailed for the design of the system database structure, the 8 functionalmodules and the user interfaces. Finally discuss the key technologies applied in thedevelopment, the main technical difficulties, solution methods and the security controlmeans we have adopted.
