The Image Of China In Vietnam Media Through Nhan Dan Online's China Report

In the era of rapid development of communication technology, mass media plays an increasingly important role in building the image of a country.Since Vietnam has carried on its open policy, local media agencies often get the government's supports, rich experiences and advanced media techniques as well. The Vietnamese media now have got relatively strong finance. Thus, they play an increasingly important role in building up other countries'images, including shaping national image of China. While China, believed the world's largest and continuously upgraded comprehensive national strength developing country, has a rapid economic development and improved international status. So the country nowadays attracts more and more attentions of other countries in the world, expecially some Western developed countries and other developing ones (including Vietnam).The thesis takes Nhan Dan Online-a very influential newspaper in Vietnam-as an example to analyze the characteristics of the paper in reporting on China whereby find out the way Vietnam media building the image of China.With the methods of quantitative analysis, the thesis gives a discourse study on representative particles which is selected from Nhan Dan Online's China Report from 1 May 2008 to 1 May 2009.The thesis focuses on analizing the quantitative of reporting, the content of reporting, attention and attitude in reporting, including genneral and particular analysis of major news of China and Vietnam-China relationship. The thesis concludes that, while Vietnamese media present their own viewpoints in reporting news about historical issues between the two countries, but overall basically reporting on China with positive, affirmative, objective framework and perspective. This bias is presented clearly in coverage of mutual visits of the two countries'high-level leaders and the Chinese major events. This paper not only summarizes characteristics of the China-related reports on the Vietnam'Nhan Dan Online', but also mention some constructive opinions.
