In recent years,China and Vietnam are among the world's fastest growing economies and the relationship between the two countries is becoming more and more stable.The two nation's comprehensive cooperation is greatly affected not only by the politics,military affairs and economy,well known as hard power but also various social and cultural soft power.National image,one kind of soft power,shaped and disseminated through the media,can influence people's feelings and ways of thinking and sometimes also can implement the country's political and economic strategy.With the rapid development of science,technology and internet,nowadays,news websites begin to play an important role.It not only changes the audience's consumption and life habits but also has a profound impact on the political,economic,cultural issues and other abstracts.Through the internet,the national image presented by the media is spread to massive number of people at astonishing speed and becomes an social ideology.The research of national images through the lens of Vietnamese press is relatively limited because in Vietnam,the topic is so easy to be considered politically sensitive.Moreover,Vietnamese database seems to have no such research.Although there exists some Chinese database,but the amount is insufficient,not to mention the petite scope and poorly updated resources.Therefore,in this article I will choose two Vietnamese mainstream online newspapers as the research objects,select the latest news in year 2016 as samples and analyze how Vietnamese media reflects China-related issues from the perspective of Cultural Criticism.The specific contents of the study are as follows:Firstly,this paper will briefly expound the situation between China and Vietnam and the current circumstance of Vietnamese media.Secondly,using statistical method and table encoding,a quantitative analysis will be conducted to find out the major trends in articles collected concerning China in 2016,as well as to give short interpretations and opinions of each topic.Then,based on the results,this research aims to use discourse analysis methods to inspect the most outstandingly representative articles by scrutinizing their text structures and key words.Thus,most common discourses about China-related issues will be exposed.Finally,this paper will explain the Vietnamese newspaper network in the process of presenting the image of the so-called characteristics of China,from national management to communication orientation and provide some suggestions for further research.
