With the promotion of information technology in hydraulics system, Automatic Irrigation Monitoring and Control systems are given more and more attention as an important part of water information. Currently, Hetao Plain Irrigation gates are still operated manually or automatically on field. No matter what weather is, stormy or hot, the operators need to operate the gates on field. The system operation status and water level information are usually recorded manually. But it is more complicated to process the record and the mistakes are easily made. So the manual operation and recording mode gradually can not meet the requirements of the requirement.Based on these above considerations, this paper presents remote data monitoring and control systems by GPRS as the main means of communication. The 80C51 MCU is used as the system core for the Data Acquisition Terminal, the GPRS network transmit the data collected on-site real-time wirelessly to the remote monitoring center. The data collected will be on-site real-time wireless data uploaded to the remote monitoring center by using GPS network. The software of Data Monitoring Centre is programmed by the VB language, it provides the users with a friendly man-machine interface, and connects with the background SQL Server2000 database. The system can display the real-time received data by curve, and automatically imports the historical database for querying. Monitoring Centre manages users on the different levels, sets different permissions on user actions to improve the system's security.
