Language Error Research Of "Xin' An Evening Paper"

Newspaper is a periodically publication which is oriented towards the news and topical comments. It is an important carrier of information and has a function of reflecting and directing public opinion. At the same time, it also plays an exemplary role in the language use and usually directs readers'cognition, understanding, and use of language potentially and unconsciously.However, because of various reasons, many newspapers don't play a good exemplary role in the language use while there exist some mistakes latently. It is an important aspect of studying languages well which can not be neglected to summarize and analyze wrong sentences of newspapers, find where the reasons are, study the way of settlement, and promote standardization of newspaper's language. The thesis is concerned with an authoritative newspaper:Xin'an Evening News. Under the guidance of modern linguistics and on the base of inheriting and using other fruit of research for reference, it thoroughly analyzes all wrong sentences in the Xin'an Evening News on the first day of every month from 2007 to 2009. To improve the newspaper's quality and guide the standardization of languages, it tries to observe and know about the mistakes in the local newspapers through them to make a great contribution.The thesis mainly includes three parts. Part I summarizes history and the present state of studying the faults in the press and problems and disadvantages, and also makes the purpose and significance of the subject clear.Part II is concerned with Xin'an Evening News on the first day of every month of recent three years, collects and analyzes wrong sentences which mainly can be divided into three types:grammatically wrong sentences, semantically wrong sentences and pragmatically wrong sentences. A lot of these three types of wrong sentence exist in the paper. Most of them are grammatically wrong sentences which account for 57.6%.Then semantically wrong sentences account for 27.1%. Pragmatically wrong sentences account for 15.3%.By comparison of number of wrong sentences in the paper of 2007,2008 and 2009, we are not optimistic about the paper's language in the recent three years and find there are no obvious improvement. So it is essential to step up the standardization and promote the development.PartⅢconcludes the reasons which lead to being nonstandard in the press on the base of description and explanation of language and with the relative theories of sociolinguistics and cultural linguistics. firstly, non-linguistic factors mainly include the influence of policy, economy and culture, and medium itself, e.g. low consciousness of the standardization of medium, low cognitive level of standardizing language, slack control of government etc. Secondly, language itself.PartⅣproposes some suggestions and countermeasures to the standardization of press language combined with linguistic mistakes in Xin'an Evening News. E.g. Respect the regularity of the language use, set right sense of language and standardization; Publicize them widely to improve the public consciousness of language standardization; Completely promote the personnel's quality;Perfect the organization, make the duty clear, strictly examine, comprehensively govern etc.At last, draw a conclusion and point out the shortcomings.
