Grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary are the basic constitutes of language. And vocabulary is always the most sensitive part to any language. With the news, information and column topics as the main content, newspaper is a vehicle that can spread information in a rapid way. And it has a definite name and it publishes on a regular base or from time to time. Taken language as the carrier, newspaper mirrors social life in a direct way. That is to say, newspaper, to some extent, is a mirror which reflects people's life. Therefore, the present thesis, by comparing the lexical frequency differences of some vocabulary, aims to conduct a deep comparison of Yangcheng Evening News and Xi'an Evening news which embodies the social life and culture of the Southern people and that of the Northern respectively. Through comparison, it will bring out the specific features of the language used in both the papers. The thesis will probe into culture differences that the two papers reflects by comparing the vocabulary frequency differences from the perspective of traditional words, dialect words and loan words. In recent years, the wide spread of internet has spurred a variety of vocabulary. Therefore, it is of great necessity to draw a study of this. By further analyzing the differences of the vocabulary choice of the two regional newspapers, this present thesis intends to find out the underlying causes of this phenomenon, and author hopes present study will shed some light on the future research.
