This thesis is based on the author's research project—"Comprehensive Network Performance Monitoring System based on SLA (SLAMS)". During the project, the author gives deeply research on the relevant issues of SLA Monitoring systems with referencing the latest research results around the world.Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a formal negotiated agreement between service provider and consumer, consisting the QoS parameter provided by the provider to specify the Service quality level. In order to validate the value of special QoS parameter, the Service Management System must collect performance data by the bottom Performance Monitoring System and map them into QoS parameters. A novel Management concept—Service Level Agreement (SLA) is introduced on the basis of introduction and analysis of the basic concepts, theories and the status of the present and future researches of network management. This thesis introduces the content and purpose in details, presents the implementation methods in different network environments of SLA, and further gives out a universal architecture for Performance Management System of SLA. The content and methods to measure the performance parameters of networks of this architecture is discussed in detail, and the mechanism that maps network performance parameters to QoS parameters is highlighted. This system uses sniffer technology, active measure method and passive measure method to monitor the network performance in real-time, measure objects include network performance(delay, packet loss), service performance(www, ftp, email, dns) and server status etc., so as to monitor SLAs. This system is developed on the Windows platform importing the merits of relevant overseas products, and can give full run-time information of bottom networks to the networks supplier, so that the problems of networks can be detected and resolved, and it also makes it true that the user really get the information of the quality of the service that they got.
