Research And Implementation Of Router Operation & Management And Policy-Based Network Management

With the rapid development of the scale of Internet and the diversity of services provided by Internet, management of the Internet becomes more and more important. Nowadays, research on IPv6 and Next Generation Internet makes Internet to be service-driven. And the business demands make network management be critical to Internet.Network management is divided into micro-area and macro-area. In micro-area, network management studies how to operate and configure devices that construct Internet. In this area, every device vendor has its own solutions. In macro-area, network management studies how to monitor and diagnose the troubles of network entities. In this area, Internet Engineering Task Force has already proposed a suit of protocols, which are infrastructure of Simple Network Management Architecture and have been standards of Internet management. Under such background, we have made an intensive study of network management both in micro-area and in macro-area, based on the National '863' High Tech Program "IPv4/IPv6 Dual Stack Router" which is developed by our laboratory.The thesis firstly gives an overview of the architecture of "IPv4/IPv6 Dual Stack Router". Then we analyze the requirements of router operation and management. Based on the analysis, the design and implementation module are completed by the author. Besides, the research on policy-based management is introduced and the future direction of research is presented. In the end, a new framework on configuration management of BGP with some critical algorithms is described. Integrated with works of Internet Routing Registry, the framework provides a solution for automatic configuration of BGP-speakers all over the Internet.
