The Design And Implementation Of SNMP-Based Configuration Management Module

Computer Network is a very huge and complicated distributed system, and on whichmany communication equipments are running, produced by different manufacturers. Inorder to obtain or set equipment parameter by a unified mechanism, Simple NetworkManagement Protocol (SNMP) came into being, which developed out of Simple GatewayMonitoring Protocol (SGMP), used to carry out monitoring of communication line. Whilewith the popularization of TCP/IP technology, it is quite necessary to stipulate a networkmanagement protocol based on TCP/IP protocol stack. As the administrative agency ofInternet, Internet Activities Board (IAB) revised and modified SGMP, and released it asthe version of SNMP v1. Then in1993, IAB released the version of SNMP v2andsimplified version of SNMP v2c. In consideration of the increasingly urgent demand ofnetwork security, it released version of SNMP v3in1998and greatly enhanced thesecurity of SNMP.In this paper, the design and implementation of configuration management modulebased on SNMP have been discussed, which is the supportive module of Comware v5operating system in H3C Technologies Co., Limited. Configuration management modulefalls into client and agent, while agent can operate on different devices, and which makesthe implementation of client on different devices no difference.The configuration management client could manage the device parameter of Routerand switch board with SNMP message in graphical interface; while the importantparameter of Router and switch board could be automatically reported to the configurationmanagement client.
