With the electronic technology is developing fantasticly fast,the the request for higher performance frequency synthesizer is put forward. Especailly under the situation that frequency grow higher and higher,how to maintain high performance of frequency synthesizer is an emphasis. Phase-Frequency Dector(PFD) and Charge-Pump(CP) are the crucial components of frequency synthesizer and they could have a large impact on phase noise,reference spur and lock time.Therefore,high performance PFD and CP is the necessity and guarantee for high performance frequency synthesizer.This dissertation is special for Phase-Locked Loop(PLL) frequency synthesizer. In the exordium,PLL's development and application are introduced.And current situation and future of frequency synthesizer are also talked about in this chapter. The fundamental theories of PLL are introduced in the next,which are essential for comprehension of the 3rd chapter. In 3rd chapter,the three main issues of frequency synthesizer's performance are introduced and analysed. They are phase noise,reference spur and lock time. PFD and CP's design of high performance are introduced detailed in 4rd and 5rd chapter respectively. After analyzing and comparing with different types, a new high performance PFD and CP is presented. The figures and simulation chart verify it's high performance and it provide some meaningful instructions for high performance frequency synthesizer design.
