As an important part of the information society, Digital Earth is present recently and covers many fields which have been developing partially. As an aspect of Digital earth's research, Digital Drainage Area is a primal stage in domestic research at present. Based on Digital Qingjiang Drainage Area ,the VR application in Digital Drainage Area is focused on the thesis. The main content is organized as follows:Firstly, some research on 3-D scene modeling technology is made. some different techniques are applied according to different model entities , the importance of proper DB is discussed ,and two ways, which are texture mapping and LOD technique, are used to reduce scene complexity. Based upon the above techniques, some digital models of Qingjiang hydropower stations are constructed under the analysis of the stations' structures and surroundings.Secondly, terrain building technique is researched: the terrain building technique grounded on DTM data and the terrain scene building technique grounded on multi-resolution model. Based on the above theories, the Qingjiang texture terrain is built and the result is satisfactory. Thirdly, the whole drainage area's virtual simulation system comes true with the virtual simulation software Vega.Lastly, the mutual simulation system is formed with integrating all kinds of models and terrain data. The user can process 3-D mutual rambling, gain obviously simulation and analysis results, prevent flood and reduce disaster, and exploit conveniently and fleetly tour resources.
