Virtual reality (VR) is a new technology which involves computer technology, image processing, simulation technique, multimedia technology, sensor and meterage technology and etc. VR can be applied to many fields and will have more extensive applications in the future. As a medium oriented to operator, VR can offer an immersion sense to user with its living environment. VR technology is based on scene simulation. 3D modeling is the most important platform to exhibit the imagination and actuality of the VR.In this paper, we take the robot's motion and object tracking process as the research content and design a desktop VR simulation system. It realizes the robot's motion simulation and part scene of the campus digitizing and other functions.Firstly, the modeling theory and key technology are expatiated in the paper. The methods of texture mapping and the methods of particle system in the dynamic modeling are studied and compared. Secondly, the models database is built and the scene is driven, Then, the models and system are optimized in order to improve the speed and performance. Thirdly, a GUI is developed to setup the connection between VR simulation end and motion capture end by the socket network service. Through the network, the robot's motion position of six DOF is transmitted to implement the motion simulation. At last, the software of MultiGen Creator is used to build models and Vega is used to drive the scene. At the same time, VC++ and the Vega's API are combined to realize the VR system including the rendering function and special effects and others in the graphic workstation.
