With the progress of era and rapid development of information technology, Virtual Reality technology has been developed rapidly and applied in many ways. Currently, Virtual Reality has been widely applied in digital cities, virtual roads, bridges, traffic, virtual battlefield,etc. This technology makes people experience the immersion,interaction,realism of virtual systems without visiting the natural scene. Some scholars believe that mankind will enter a new era of virtual reality technology during the 21st century,and virtual reality technology will be the representative of information technology.Virtual reality technology,multimedia technology and network technology will be known as the three most promising computer technology. Therefore, virtual reality technology is increasingly becoming an important mean to explore and transform the objective world. This article is proposed in the contextTaking Virtual Lv You Road of Jinan for example,the main contents include the following three aspects.One,the basic principles and the implementation process of Virtual Reality technology.The paper introduce the basic principles and the compositions of virtual environment and the software and hardware needed for virtual Lv You Road and building a virtual reality platform.Second, the modeling technology research of virtual Lv You Road .Introduce the scene modeling technology solutions of Lv You Road, including terrain modeling of the road and the construction scene modeling around the road; the paper proposes the technology roadmap and implementation plan of high-precision terrain modeling based on GIS,and the 3D environment of LvYou Road was constructed by using Creator..Third, the traffic simulation research of virtual Lv You Road. The main function of this traffic simulation is implemented in the Vega,which include the realization of traffic simulation and the operation results of the system.In practice, high-precision simulation of the actual terrain environment can help drivers familiarize themselves with the actual road conditions as soon as possible, which is of great significance for the reduction of traffic accidents and reducing training costs.The technology roadmap of the construction of high-precision terrain modeling based on GIS proposed by the paper is the main innocation.
