Design And Application Of The GPRS Wireless Data Transmission Terminal

Aiming at the demand for the wireless data transmission using the public mobile network and the need of the wireless meter reading system, the GPRS(General Package Radio System) wireless data transmission terminal used as the wireless channel for data transmission was designed and applied to the wireless meter reading system. The design procedure and the application method of the GPRS Terminal were introduced in this paper in detail. This paper was divided into several main parts as follow:Firstly, according to the dominant demands for the wireless channel, the method using the GPRS network was selected as the solution for the design of the wireless data transmission terminal by comparing the characteristics of primary wireless data transmission methods.Secondly, based on the necessary functions of the GPRS Terminal, the hardware solution using Rabbit2000 MCU with embedded TCP/IP software kit was determined by the careful analysis of some hardware solutions. Then, the network topology structure with the catalogue service provided by the GPRS Terminal provider also was chosen as the network construct scheme of the GPRS Terminal after comparing with other schemes.Thirdly, GPRS Terminal hardware design method including the main part schematic circuit and PCB design method was presented, In addition, the detailed hardware debugging also was given at last.Fourthly, according to the chosen network structure, GPRS Terminal's software was programmed and the design method also was described. The main software-module flow charts were presented at the end of that chapter.Fifthly, under the support of the NetWave Co.Ltd's server software, the wireless meter reading system based GPRS network with the GPRS Terminal inside was finished without changing software and hardware of current systems.Finally, some problems occurred in the debug procedure and respective solutions were given for farther understood.According to the GPRS Terminal well applied in the wireless meter reading system, the following conclusions could be resulted: this GPRS terminal design reached the functions anticipation and enhanced its reliability, stability, generality and easy to use. At the same time, this kind of GPRS Terminal not only supports "transparent data transmission", but also has three kinds of interface voltage levels (TTL/RS232/RS485) that can be changed by setting the switcher. Therefore, it can be used widely in other regions need the wireless data transmission channel.
