Remote Wireless Meter Reading System Design

Automatic meter reading is a means refers to the use of advanced computer technology and communication technology users to automatically access and deal with a data table.It is not only to improve the power supply enterprise automation management needs,but also make computer technology and the rapid development of communication technology inevitable.It can avoid the disadvantage of bad real-time and low accuracy data provided by the traditional real-time meter reading,and ensure the data read from every user table to the relevant department in real time and accurately.Because of the advance and broad prospects for development of the automatic meter reading,the research and development to it is fast at home and abroad.At present,the main ways of automatic meter reading have prepaid IC card,power line carrier,RS-485 bus, GPRS cellular networks,and so on.There is some disadvantage to each way,so all of them are not been promoted openly with large-scale.ZigBee is an emerging short-range,low-rate wireless network technology,with low-power, low-cost,low rate,at close range,short latency,high capacity,high security and license-free frequency band characteristics.To IEEE802.15.4 as the standard,only a small energy,it can transmit data adopted the way to relay through radio waves will continue with high communication efficiency.It is mainly apply to the various electronic devices at a short distance, low power consumption and transmission rate which is not high.The typical data types contains cyclical data,intermittent data and low response time data.This paper presents a design program of wireless remote automatic meter reading system set by the RS-485 Bus,ZigBee wireless LAN and GPRS cellular networks.The automatic meter reading system avoids the disadvantage of long-distance cable network with high cabling costs, near distance wireless LAN communications,expensive communication costs of GPRS network, has the advantage with technologically advanced,easy to achieve,a high transfer rate,high reliability and low costs,easy to popularize etc,then to become the future development trend.The automatic meter reading system is mainly composed by users' energy meter,collecting terminals,concentrators,the management center on computer.This paper elaborates the set up of the data communication link between the various parts.RS-485 bus protocol is used for communication between the collection terminal and the power meter.Related GB does a specific definition for the communication of RS-485 between physical layer and link layer.Collection terminals is the the system which implements embedded data transceiver and treatment based on the MSP430F149 single-chip,and just need to copy the data from energy meter through RS-485 in accordance with the definition of GB.ZigBee network structured by the CC2430 chip provides transparent communication channel between Concentrator and terminal.CC2430 chip is the first single-chip with 2.4GHz RF in accord with ZigBee technology made by Chipcon company,and only very few external components required with will be able to set up the wireless LAN and implement routing and relay functions.Saro 3150 DTU accesses Internet through GPRS network to implement the communication with the management center.Saro3150 can provide users with high-speed,always-on,transparent data transfer,virtual private data communications networks.This article also introduces the software development process from the development platform,design ideas and implementation and other aspects.Finally,it gives some recommendation to improve and enhance the system.
