In the12th five-year plan period, it is the trend to develop the cleanenergy, while the natural gas as a clean energy will has a huge market prospect. Andthe wide application of the natural gas will promote the rapid development of the gasmeter industry. However, the traditional gas meter cannot meet the needs of the rapiddevelopment of the market, because it has some problems, for example meter readingcaused great difficulties to the administrator, meter reading data was not accurate, thereal-time data updataed slowly. To solve above problems, this paper designed ameter reading system with IC card and CC1101. This meter reading system had theIC card,so it is convenient for gas users to buy gas. Also the meter reading systemhad the wireless transceiver ability, and it is convenient for the gas company toreal-time monitor the operation of the gas meter, avoiding the inconvenience ofmeter reading to home. This paper mainly introduced the system from the followingpoints:1) In the hardware, we chose the MSP430F417microcomputer which producedby TI company as the main control chip. It was able to measuring the gas flow, display the real-time data, transmit wireless data, etc. We also design the handheldterminal with CC1101wireless RF transceiver chip. It has the function of dataacquisition, real-time updata the gas meter parameters, etc.2) In the software, the modular programming design ideas was adopted. Wedivided into module programming and debugging, and then we integrated the moduleprogram and debuded. It is helpful to eliminate errors.3) In the gas meter network, this paper adopted the clustering algorithm. In abuilding, all gas meters were divided into several groups. Each group has a leader. When it is meter reading, the leader is responsible for transmitting data. It not onlyimprove the efficiency of meter reading, but also can avoid the data loss of the gasmeter. 4) When designed the system, a low-power consumption ideas was adopted. We makes full use of the low-power consumption function of the chip. Formicrocontroller programming, we chose interrupt instead of inquiry mode. This cansave the running time of the CPU. When the MCU is no task, we make it into sleepmode, which can reduce the current consumption. For the RF module, we chose theelectromagnetic wave wake (WOR) of the CC1101chip. When the system cannotsend or receive data, the wireless modules will be into sleep mode, further reducingthe power consumption of the system.
