Researches On Storage And Search Of Learning Resource Metadata

In the increasingly computerized education market, metadata has been largelyemployed to describe burgeoning digital learning resources. The de?nation, orga-nization and searching of learning resource metadata are becoming important areasfor both computer science and pedagogics researchers. The narration of three highly related subjects constitutes the main body of thispaper: Firstly, standards form the basis of learning resource metadata applications.Focusing on domestic metadata standards, chapter 2 takes care of (1) the theoreticand systematic proposal of the localized core elements set of the LOM standard,which has been approved by the ISO SC36; (2) the speci?cation of LOM XMLbinding; (3) the abstract model, design principles and implementation of confor-mance testing. Secondly, compared with currently prevailing full-text Web search engines,metadata-based search mechanism can support more relevant and semanticallyricher searches. Chapter 3 and chapter 5 deal with metadata-based searching infederalized and peer-to-peer environments, respectively. The federalized learningresource management module presented in chapter 3 demonstrates how to store andsearch metadata documents of XML format, and how to bridge the gap between thehierarchical metadata model and the traditional relational data model; the peer-to-peer metadata search layer detailed in chapter 5 facilitates more precise and relevantsearches in the JXTA world. Finally, the appearance and presentation of learning materials also have some-thing to do with learning resource metadata. Chapter 4 codi?es the systematicmethod to tailor learning management system and learning contents for the SCORMmodel, which is a mainstream speci?cation of the appearance, presentation and con-veyance of structured learning resources. – III –英 文 摘 要 The researches herein are funded and conducted in an effort to facilitate theadoption of metadata in the ?eld of distance learning, as well as the determinationand application of the national standard (GB) on learning resource metadata.
