The purpose of this thesis is to find ways of describing Chinese Internet Resources by researching and exploring the Dublin Core Metadata application in the U. S. It intends to promote the development and the utilization of Dublin Core Mcladla standard in China.This thcsis consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 Knowledge Organization Standard Development History Tt studies on what libraries have accomplished at various stages in lime: AACR2, USMARC, and Dublin Core metadata. Chapter 2 DC Metadata Brief History. It studies the entire development process of the Dublin Core Metadata and its achievements. Chapter .1 DC Metadata Grammar and Syntax From the language scicnce viewpoint, it studies the grammar and the syntax of Dublin Core Metadata and puts forward to two kinds of Dublin Core Metadata syntax according to its characteristics grammar syntax and metadata syntax. The first studies on the metadata function in which 15 element sets and its qualifiers, and the last one explains on how 15 clement sets and its qualifiers sets are been expressed in XML. Chapter 4 DC Metadata Application Projection Study It studies Nordic metadata project. CORC project (Cooperative Online Research Cataloging, OCLC), Harmony project (International Digital Libraries Initiative)and the Chinese Metadata project in Mainland China and Taiwan. Chapter 5 Considering DC Metadata Application at Chinese Digital Library Based on our problem. It ponders over how to develop Dublin Core Metadata in China from (he theoretical aspect and sets forth some personal suggestions on how to develop Dublin Core Metadata stools in China from the technical aspect.
