Exploration And Application Of Metadata Technology In Building Of Digital Library

With the development of society and progress of science and technology,mankind has entered the age of knowledge-based economy. Knowledge-based economy chiefly depends on the process,propagation and application of science and technology. Information technology makes technological guarantee to propagate and use the information and knowledge. Today it is the Internet that makes the knowledge-based economy feasible because of the rich information resource on the net.However,it is difficult,even impossible, to find the resources because they are isolated and became isolated information island. Only through effective organization can the resources on the net be sufficiently used. On the other hand , a lot of existing information and knowledge is not posted on the Internet. Only by posting them on the net can the information resources such as books and audiovisuals provide prompt service for the native department and correlation department personnel staff. The Digital Library emerges because informationalization demands resource sharing and technological development of Internet demands to structure and organize the information.Now our country's digital library is on the beginning stage,and is faced with a lot of technigical problems,including information organization is irrationality,the share information between different operating systems cannot identify,the searches is inefficient.The writer of this article consults the overseas advanced design experience for reference combined with the domestic situation, and applies the Dublin Core Metadata OAL's frame etc. to digital library. The writer design and implement the data modle of digital library, the MetaData storage and searches. In the end, the article also summaries what have been done and points out the deficiencies in the work and gives us some advices about it.
