Under various loads and working surroundings, torque measurement is the key method of study on dynamic character in water turbine's principal axis system. Combined with the actual developing situation, a new design is originated, that is, Non-contact Torque Measurement through Grating Sensor. This paper has also presented the study of whole measurement system.According to actual experimental condition, a new torque measurement system of water turbine's principle axis is designed and tapped. The principal axis torsion angle, produced by torque, is converted to two channel square waves with phase difference through grating sensor. Then the degree of torsion angle is measured by data collection card. Finally the value of torque and the other parameters of the axis can be calculated by upper PC. The system has the characteristic of precision,ascendant full-optical,insulation,flameproof,antijamming EMI (Electro-Magnetic-Interference) and enduring high temperature. It especially fit for axis torque measurement under atrocious surrounding and has a promising applied future.The paper make a thorough discuss and study on the grating torque sensor and its data collection card. The content includes the following: Measuring principle and realization method of the grating torque sensor; Design experimental flat; Design hardware and software of data acquisition card; Design communication interface software of upper computer. At last, the test and experiment of the system is carried out. The elementary error analysis of the experiment data has been done, and the improved plan has been offered. The result of experiment indicates that thesystem designing is proper, and could satisfy our request.The creative point in the paper is the research of the data acquisition card. The design of hardware is based on FPGA (Filled Programmable Gate Array) and MCU (Micro Computer Unit), providing small volume, reliability and simply control. The design of software is based on Keil C51 and Foundation 3.1. It can realize many complex functions, so the flexibility of application is greatly strengthened.
