The real-time processing technology of digital image processing has become a hotspot of research, as the applications of digital image processing extend continuously. The fast development of VLSI technology has provided the base of hardware for FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) is most suitable for performing real-time pixel-level image processing operations.In this paper, a digital image real-time processing experiment system using FPGA has been designed and setup. It can implement some common image processing functions. The part of image processing has been realized using an Altera EPEX100QC-208 FPGA. It can accomplish the contrast reverse transformation, contrast linear enhancement, histogram modification, filter (lowpass and highpass),and the writer give two new algorithms which has been realized in FPGA, one is automatic gain linear enhancement, the other is complicated background restrain based on common knowledge. The control signal of other ICs and ASICs are given by FPGA. The speed of system can reach real-time request(50 fieldes per second), and the processing time used is less than 20ms. Here, the circuit schematic diagrams are given, and the work principles and process are described particularly.
