Research And Development Of Decision Support System Based On Data Warehouse

The society is developing swiftly. The worldwide application of the computer and information technology has been changing people's life, and the enterprise's operation method, too. hi an environment of severity market competition, it is necessary for the enterprise to apply the advanced computer and information technology to win the marketIn the operational process of the enterprise, to make a quick and right decision is the key to success. The conventional decision-making frequently depends on personal experience, so the decision often has a fault of blindness. With the development of computer technique and manage science, comes with the decision support system (DSS). Further more, with the development of data warehouse (DW) and correlated techniques, the decision support system advances quickly.With combination of the data warehouse and decision support system, and with the association of the data supporting and model supporting decisions, we can improve the effectiveness of the decision-making. This thesis is based on the project of "Management Information System of Hang Zhou Cigarette Factory ", and has researched on the theory and know-how of DSS and DW. Finally, we developed a prototype of decision support system based on data warehouse.The first chapter explains the basic concept of information system, data warehouse and decision support system, and shows the total frame structure of the thesis.The second chapter describes some problems associated with decision, the evolvement of decision support system and so on, and makes the total structure of DSS clearly.The third chapter researches on data warehouse and associated technologies of data preparation, on-line analytical processing (OLAP), data mining and so on. The method of how the data warehouse supporting decision-making has described also.Based on the above two chapters, the fourth chapter researches on how to set up a DSS system based on data warehouse, including how to create a model base (MB), how to create a data base (DB), how to design the human-computer interface and how to set up the total structure.In the fifth chapter, we developed a prototype of DSS, i.e. MDSS (Marketing Decision Support System). This chapter introduces some theory of marketing and shows how mis prototype could support marketing decision.The last chapter has contributed to conclusion and prospect for the future DSS developing.The main work of this paper is as follows: combining data warehouse with DSS, integrating DSS with web technology, developing a prototype of MDSS.
