Information Analysis, Decision Support Systems In Data Mining And Olap - Data Warehouse Environment

The information is the foundation to make decision. People analyze the information via different ways to make more efficient decision. The information analysis is the procedure that, in request of the giving issue, collects and analyzes the related information to obtain the new information which helps to solve the problem. The development and maturation of the decision support system was along with the development of the computer technology. This system makes it possible to analyze the information with supporting of information technology. In a word, decision support system is closely related to the information analysis.The concept of data warehouse was proposed in the late 1990s. It is a precept that uses the traditional database technology as the basic method to store data and manage source, statistics technology as the efficient method to analysis data and obtain information, artificial intelligence technology as the scientific protocol to discover new knowledge and discipline. In order to efficiently use the data in the data warehouse and fulfill the requirements of decision, the data warehouse tools appear. Two important kinds of tool are on-line analytical processing and data mining. On-line analytical processing expands the framework of data from two-dimension to niultiple-dimension, and provides the method to analyze the multiple dimensional data. Data mining is developed from artificial intelligence and machinery studying and provides efficient technology and method for automatic discovery of knowledge and regular pattern.Nowadays, it is thought more and more important the integrated intellectual decision support system, which is based on data warehouse, on-line analytical processing and data mining. And it sets a new field for decision support system to develop. A lot of specialists in the fields of data warehouse and decision support system have focused their researches on the data warehouse technology: Most of them have contributed a lot to the building of data warehouse. But those researches overlooked the close and inevitable relationship between data warehouse (and related technology) and information analysis because of lacking of specific background. From the literature review, the author found some informatics specialist began the research in data warehouse, but their work is dispersive and scanty especially when relate it to the information analysis background. From the literature search, the author found the lack of the interdisciplinary of data warehouse and information analysis. Thus it is worthy to focus our study on data warehouse technology from the view of information analysis.The purpose of this paper is to make up the deficiency of current studies, to study the data warehouse technology from the view of information analysis and tocontribute to the research on information analysis in the environment of data warehouse.The author tries to analyze problems and clarify her point of view by history overview, comparison research, literature review and case analysis. The article consists of 6 chapters.Chapter 1. Introduction. The relationship of information and decision as well as generation and development of information analysis are discussed. The evolution of decision support system and the methods of information analysis in different stages of development are overviewed. The current direction of development is to construct integrated intellectual decision support system that is based on database, data mining and on-line analytical processing.Chapter 2. To analyze the new environment with the information constructed from data warehouse. Problems those exist in the information analysis activities are analyzed. The features of the data warehouse are discussed, as well as why . information analysis should undergo in the environment of data warehouse. Chapter 3.
