Saline Lake is a kind of valuable and Comprehensive natural resources, which is very important for our economy and society. It is necessary to do some research about resources and environmental of saline lake in order to keep sustainable development and utilization of saline lake resources. On the one hand, the National Digital Saline Lake can provide spatial information of saline lakes, which is basic data for researching dynamic changes in saline lakes. On the other hand, property database provides the status and resources of the Saline Lakes, helping to develop resources. The applications of GIS and RS are as fllowed:First, the development of spatial database and attribute database of National Saline Lake.Data is the base of programming and application. This paper amplifies requirements analysis, outline design, conceptual design, logical design and physical structure design of spatial database and attribute database of National Saline Lake, introduces the data sources, workflow and data management.Second, establishment of National Digital Saline Lake.Based on the analysis of the WEBGIS and its related technologies, this paper introduces the product selection and software/hardware environment of Digital Saline Lakes, presents the procedure of web site creation and its functions. The data source of digital saline lake is spatial database and attribute database.Third, the dynamic changes of Saline Lakes in western China.Analysising the data exteacted from MSS, TM and ETM of province-units, presents the overall changes of saline lakes in each province from 70's to around 2000. We select some large and representative saline lakes, and the analysis the changes of saline lakes one by one, results are as fllowed:the saline lakes in Northwest Tibet and southern Inner Mongolia are mostly shrank, the saline lakes in Southeast Tibet, southern Qinghai and northern Inner Mongolia are tend to expand, the saline lakes in Xinjiang are also tend to expand. Finally, I amplify the factors which caused the changes of the lakes.
