Liu Wendian, a prestigious educator and master of Sinology in modern China, played a transitional role in studying bibliography. Throughout his life, Liu Wendian engaged himself in all kinds of researches on bibliography with a meticulous attitude, putting emphasis on Statecraft in academic research and Sino-Western academic communication. Under the influence of academic research ideas such as Rearranging the National Heritage and Chinese literature Revolution at the time, his masterpieces, such as Huainan Honglie Systematically Notes, Zhuang Zi Supplement and San Yu Zha Ji came out soon, with which he gained his irreplaceable position in China’s bibliography history. From these masterpieces we could know Liu Wendian’s teaching attitudes and approaches. Huainan Honglie Systematically Notes, after published, raised a hot research trend on " Huai Nanzi " in the society at that time, which advanced the study on " Huai Nanzi ". In addition, The Chronicle of Du Fu written in his later life is an important work to study Du Fu and the literature of the Tang Dynasty and provides another perspective to later scholars to understand the life of Du Fu, which is of great academic significance.In general, Liu Wendian’s bibliography has its unique characteristics, especially in textual criticism, historical semantics, document version and literature collection. Take Huainan Honglie Systematically Notes as an example, we can know the Liu Wendian’s ideas on textual criticism based on ancient versions. During the process of textual criticism, he paid great attention to selecting and the distinguishing different versions. So by studying Liu Wendian’s ideas on ancient versions, experience on studying modern versions can be gained. Moreover, although Liu Wendian was not famous for collecting documents, he devoted himself to emending classical bibliography, so collecting books was an important part of his life. However, during the Anti-Japanese War, due to the turbulent political situation, Japanese robbed Liu Wendian of his books in Hong Kong, which were then nowhere to be found. Subsequently, with the relevant people’s efforts, the robbed books were found finally, and it finished one of his last wish.There are special reasons for Liu Wendian’s great achievements in bibliography. Firstly, he got academic help from masters like Liu Shipei and Zhang Taiyan. Secondly, the support of his friends, especially Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu’s, was inseparable. With the encouragement of these people in his early years, Liu Wendian soon made great achievements academically. Finally, the frequent academic exchanges Liu Wendian made with bis contemporaries also contributed to its success. For example, Liu Wendian and Wu Mi were famous scholars in modern Chinese history, whose academic exchanges were very wide. When teaching, they had close academic exchanges in the field of the field of poetry and studying The Story of the Stone to the field of translation. And these exchanges not only increased their knowledge, but also stirred constant emerging of academic masters during the period of the Republic of China.Liu Wendian’s bibliography has an important position in Chinese academic history, and its influence is the most far-reaching especially in academic inheriting, that is, he plays the role of a link in nurturing the’ Tsinghua School", in a sense, he creates "Wendian School" in Chinese modern School, in general, the influence of Liu Wendian literature is profound, not only on the field of literature, but also on his studies of the Japan. After Japan invaded China, Liu Wendian used Statecraft to study Japan, and transferred the method of textual research to studying Japanese culture. Liu Wendian bibliography’s influence also extends to his ideas on translation. Thanks to his well-mastered language skills, his translated many works in his early times. The aims of Liu Wendian’s translation is to arouse the nation’s awareness of protecting their country. He believes that uplifting national characters can only be cultivated by positive thoughts.
