In recently years, with the increment of urbanization, the computer aided urban planning has become more and more important. Generally, the computed aided process is accomplished through the help of multiple software systems. There are several issues with the above solution: It cannot support dynamic planning approach. It needs huge number of manual operations. It is lack of methods to manage huge number of spatial data and display them in multiple levels of details. It is typically hard to have multiple systems from different vendors work together. This dissertation tries to tackle those issues through followings methods: A feedback based interactive dynamic GIS evaluation model - this model combines GIS and CAD techniques together. It provides abundant interactive functions to present a perfect function model and workflow for the design of computer aided urban planning software systems. The temporal-spatial reasoning approaches are applied to simulate human deduction process. Multiple agents technique is introduced into computer aided urban planning systems. Agent is regarded as the basic unit of the aided planning system, and the common action regularities of agents is realized by temporal-spatial reasoning specification. The dynamic simulation after an urban is influenced by a case is implemented by the interactive attribute adjustment of agents, and the auto-evaluation is realized by the attribute adjustment and cooperation among agents to improve the software automation. Several enhancements to the existing spatial object handling technology, including improved indexing method and quality selection parameters of spatial objects, IR-tree based spatial objects generalization technique. An object and agent based computer aided urban planning system (CAUPS) has been implemented. It combines certain functions of GIS and CAD systems and provides intelligent auto evaluation function of planning case. CAUPS enhances the traditional urban planning mode by implementing novel urban planning workflow and can greatly improve the efficiency of this process.
