National Image is the integrated knowledge and complex analysis for a nation by the international community, which symbolizes national power and ethnic spirit as the most important immaterial assets by the sovereignty nation and concentrated embodiment of colligated national power. National image is of so great importance that it might take effect on the status and role played by the nation in the global community.However, the national image by China impresses us not so optimistic. Due to the ideology, interests, ethic values and other factors as well as the information flow controlled by mass media in advanced western countries lead by USA, China' s image in the world is much more established and modified by western countries including USA at the result of distorting and departing from the original image to a great extent.The success of applying for Olympic Games by Beijing in 2008 provides us a historic chance for us to manage establishing and communicating for national image. Up today, Olympic Games as an international cultural ritual has already developed into a media event. During the period from success of application to the conclusion of the games, Beijing as well as China will be the focus of the eyesight of the world. China must grasp this chance to demonstrate well its fruits in both material and spiritual culture by strengthening communication and exchange with media and ethnics in the world for the purpose of establishing and communicating effectively the powerful China' s image, In fact, the logo of "Green Olympics, Technological Olympics and Humanitarian Olympics" has already announced a new image of China in the world.The thesis mainly falls into four parts: the first chapter introduces and collects the concepts, denotation and connotation, function and meaning of national image, which put special attention to the word "soft power"and its relationship with national image; The second chapter mainly deals with reports by western countries lead by USA towards China and probes into the current image of China in the world, then it further explains the new image of "peaceful rise" by China; The third chapter focuses on explanation for Olympic Games as examples of national media events and sets Tokyo Olympic Games and Seoul Olympic Games as examples to analyze the effects by Olympic Games on national images; The Fourth chapter takes Beijing Olympic Application Episode and the logo as examples in view of unscrambling the significance by them for the establishment and communication of China' s national image.
