Winning the bid to host the winter Olympic Games not only reflects the hard and soft power like economics, politics and culture, but also show the national image and status to the world. This thesis intended to use China’s successful bid to host the 2022 winter Olympics as the breakthrough point to analyze our country’s nationa 1 image and shaping in cross-cultural communication. Here are the conclusions of the analysision:1. The dissemination of the bid of winter Olympic Games mainly shaped and built an open, friendly and civilized national image of China; 2. To co mpare the report attitude, BBC and CNN have three level of communication effect about China’s dissemination of the 2022 winter Olympic Games:a. As both Britain and America media rarely set agenda for Chinese sports events, the level of environ ment effect is weak; b. From the aspect of value form maintenance effect, the negative effect of both Britain and America to China’s national image shaping is more than the positive effect; c. The strength of western sports is still higher than any other countries in the world, thus the social behavior demonstration effect of Britain and America’s media towards China is neutrality. Generally speaking, due to the different language context, the media in cross-cultural communication, con structs the image of one country is not objective reappearance of the original text, symb olic interpretation of the news media tend to be affected by object of the concept of economic, political and individual emotional factors.Therefore,China’s national image communication and shaping should constantly builds innovated transmission model, actively explore new promotional strategies, and then gain optimized comm unication effect.The frame of this thesis is roughly divided into the following several aspects: the introduction part analyzed the national image in the globalization discourses ystem of our country from the theory perspective. The Second chapter use the rese arch paradigm-Beijing and Zhangjiakou successful bid to host the 2022 winter Olympic Games to analyze the national identity construction in cross-cultural communication and national image creation sphere. The third chapter is comparative analysis research which based on specific media. Main selection media are BBC and CNN which play dominant role in the global discourse system. This thesis through the concrete attitude and effect of communication toward China’s Olympic dissemination and reporting to compare the western mainstream media construction of China’s national image with our own construction.’The fourth chapter of this thesis focused On the future construction of the national image creation and transmission, meanwhile give some suggestions.
