ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate the level of professional self-concept and clinical practice ability among nursing postgraduates,to analyze the relationship between the two variable and to provide a reference to improve their clinical practice ability.MethodsQuestionnaire and qualitative research methods were used in this study to understand the current situation and the relationship between professional self-concept and clinical practice ability of nursing postgraduates. It consists of two parts:1.Questionnaire survey was used to carry out quantitative research,224 master's nursing students were selected by wholly type sampling method from colleges and universities in Henan province from December 2016 and July 2017.Self-regulated general information questionnaire, the nursing professional self-conception scale(C-NSCQ)and self-evaluation scale of oriented problem solving behavior in nursing practice(OPSN)were used. The SPSS17.0 software was used to analyze data. The statistical methods included descriptive analysis?t-test?nonparametric test? Kruskal-waills test? variance analysis?Spearman correlation analysis?multiple linear regression.2.A qualitative analysis of the relationship between the professional self-concept and clinical practice ability among nursing postgraduates: Semi-structure interview and the purposive sampling method was used.According to the results of quantitative studies,15 nursing postgraduates who had a high level of professional self-concept were selected as interviewers between June to August 2017,the interview data was collected and analyzed.Results1.The average score of clinical practice ability was(3.89±0.45),“exploration competence”(3.78±0.82),“personal caring”(3.91±0.50),“behavior appraisal”(3.84±0.59),“communication”(3.98±0.54),“psychological support”(3.97±0.46).2.The mean of professional self-concept was(5.57±1.13),“general self-concept”(5.57±1.13),“leadership”(5.40±1.04),“communication”(5.94±0.89),“knowledge”(6.35±0.89),“staff relations”(6.37±0.97),“caring”(5.56±1.05).3.The score of “OPSN” were statistical difference in different grades and practicing time and work experience.4.Except the “leadership”,The master's nursing students' professional self-concept was positively correlated with clinical practice ability(r=0.217 p<0.001).5.The OPSN score was used as dependent variable, multiple liner regression was employed to identify possible related factors.Four variables entered into the regression model : grades, practicing time, work experience and the professional self-concept.They could explain 23.10% of the total variance of OPSN.Using the same method to analysis the score of each dimension of OPSN,The professional self-concept entered into the regression model of each dimension of OPSN,The standardization regression coefficient were 0.155~0.281,The professional self-concept had great influence on the average of all dimensions of OPSN.5.Qualitative research results showed that the experience of clinical practice of masters' nursing students included enhance professional practice ability?enhance teaching and research ability.Conclusion1.The scale of master's nursing students' professional self-concept and clinical practice ability are at the middle level, still needing to be improved.2.The master's nursing students' professional self-concept and clinical practice ability is positively correlated.3.The experience of Clinical practice in masters' nursing students include enhance professional practice ability?enhance teaching and research ability.Master's nursing students who have a high level of professional self-concept can improve their clinical skill and so on.
