With the gradual deepening of the understanding of sustainable development all over the world,As the power source of sustainable social development,the main space and bearing platform for the coordinated development of regional economy,the importance of cities is becoming increasingly obvious.Therefore,promoting the sustained prosperity of cities,protecting the environment and reducing pollution emissions while developing the economy is the premise for China to achieve high-quality development in the new era.In the planning documents issued by the central government,the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle not only serves as the driving force core of the economic growth of the western region and the leading demonstration area of national innovation and development,but also shoulders the responsibility of the ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.Due to its special strategic positioning,the study of the current situation and characteristics of the coupling and coordinated development of the energy-economy-environment-social(3E1S)systems of the city within the planning scope of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle not only has guiding significance for the construction and development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle,but also plays a leading role in the economic development of surrounding cities,neighboring urban agglomerations and western regions.On the basis of combing through the past research literature,this article explained the relevant concepts of cities and urban agglomerations,coupling and coordination,and then studied the 3E1 S system of cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle based on System theory and Synergetics under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and Sustainable Development Theory.Within the framework of energy,economy,environment and social systems,this paper used the top-down method to disassemble and analyze the system layer and the element layer,and then conducted in-depth research on the mechanism of action between systems through the bottom-up method,expanding the research horizon of energy-economy-environment-social system.Based on the theoretical research,this paper clearly studied the coupling and coordination between urban energy-economy-environment-social systems based on the sample data of 16 cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle from 2005 to 2019.From the perspective of model application,this paper tried to use the modified coupling coordination model for the first time to comprehensively explore the coupling coordination relationship between energy,economy,environment and society,and overcame the error of the value range of the traditional coupling coordination model and the reduction of the validity of the model after the model is simplified.In order to avoid the limitations of single-method empowerment evaluation,the paper also used the Topsis method of entropy weight to comprehensively evaluate the system.Finally,through the Grey Relational Analysis method,this paper comprehensively discussed the driving factors of the coupling and coordinated development of urban energy,economy,environment and social systems in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.The main research conclusions of the paper are as follows:(1)In the study of the composition and mechanism of urban energy,economy,environment and social systems.The article subdivides the urban energy-economy-environment-social system into the target layer,the subsystem layer and the subsystem element layer,and the subsystem layer further decomposes the four major factors of the target,the activist,the activity and the role relationship,and the interaction relationship of the four systems is roughly divided into three categories: promoting type,hindering type and "U" type that first hinders and then promotes.Later,in the study of the mechanism of system action,the paper found that the key to the coordinated development of urban energy-economy-environment-social system coupling is to correctly get rid of the dual shackles of energy and environment in the process of social and economic development.(2)In the comprehensive development of urban energy,economy,environment and social system.The overall development level of the economic and environmental system of the cities in the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle is relatively good,and the development of the social system is slow and relatively backward;The energy system was relatively stable at the initial stage of development,and the development level of the energy system began to improve rapidly since 2016.(3)In terms of the coupling and coordinated development of urban energy,economic,environmental and social systems.The paper found that the cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle have undergone a development process from low to high degree of coupling and coordination,and the coupling and coordination degree of the 3E1 S system has been ranked by the average annual value of Chongqing > Chengdu > Guang’an > Nanchong > Mianyang > Yibin >Leshan > Zigong > Ziyang > Meishan > Deyang > Neijiang > Suining > Luzhou >Ya’an > Dazhou.The coupling and coordinated development of urban energy-economy-environment-social system in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle presents the characteristics of coordinated development of regional cities with Chongqing and Chengdu as the core and linkage.(4)In terms of the drivers of coordinated development coupled and coordinated urban energy,economic,environmental and social systems.The comprehensive analysis of the article found that the economic and social related index factors had a greater impact on the coordinated development of urban coupling.Among them,the urbanization rate,per capita park green area,Proportion of expenditure on education,green coverage rate of built-up areas,the number of public buses/trams per 10,000 people and the coupling coordination degree of the 3E1 S system in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle had the highest correlation.Based on the above conclusions,the article provides the following policy suggestions for promoting the coupling and coordinated development of energy,economy,environment and social systems in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle: accelerate energy transformation and promote integrated construction;integrate industrial resources and cultivate new economic momentum;strengthen environmental safety guarantees,strengthen joint prevention and control of pollution;promote the integrated development of cities,and adhere to the protection of people’s livelihood.
