Abstract/Summary:
With the tightening net of discipline in modern society, individuals are more and more inclined to seek more autonomy for themselves in the form of daily resistance, and "cyber-loafing" is a resistance strategy explored by workers in their long-term practice. In this paper,we use Python to crawl the discussions about "cyber-loafing" on Zhihu platform and extract four research themes with the help of LDA topic model:the labor environment and workplace of cyber-slackers,the tactical strategies that cyber-slackers usually use,the discourse resistance of cyber-slackers,and the ideology behind the text. The first chapter introduces the background and design of the study, reviews and composes the relevant literature from the perspective of cyber-loafing-related studies and daily resistance, and determines the research direction and focus of the study based on the extracted themes through the processing and visualization of the texts. The second chapter examines the labor environment and working conditions of the cyber-slackers,arguing that capital is redividing and seizing the time and space of the slackers and gradually compressing the space of individual autonomy with the help of various technological devices, and that the workplace of the slackers is experiencing the double domination of capital and technology. The third chapter draws on De Certeau and Goffman’s theory to give a detailed description of the tactical strategies adopted by the slackers, arguing that although the domination of capital and technology is getting tighter and tighter, the cyber-slackers can still find room for resistance and seek benefits with various tactical strategies.Chapter 4 analyzes the representative texts in the "Guomei Affair" and the related discussion of "Introduction to Cyber-loafing" by using discourse analysis, and argues that cyber-slackers still face a lack of discourse and ideological resources, and that the texts produced by slackers reflect their worries and dissatisfaction with their own class conditions and working environment, but this does not turn into motivation to change reality, but rather into postmodern parody, becoming a passive discursive resistance.
