Study On The Impact Of Industrial Agglomeration On The Global Value Chain Position Of Electronic Equipment Manufacturing Industry

The manufacturing industry is the basis of a strong country and the foundation of a nation,and ensuring the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry is the top priority to promote high-quality economic development.2022,the scale of China’s manufacturing industry exceeded 40 trillion yuan,accounting for 33.2% of GDP,ranking first in the world for 13 consecutive years,which shows that China has long been among the world’s leading manufacturing countries.However,we can also see that the value-added rate of China’s manufacturing industry is about 20% in recent years,which is far lower than the 35% level of developed countries,indicating that the added value of China’s manufacturing industry is low,and it is in the middle and lower part of the global value chain,which is far from being a "manufacturing power".At the present stage,China’s demographic dividend and natural resource endowment advantages are declining,and the fact that China is at the low end of the global value chain with the characteristic of "high quantity and low quality" highlights the serious challenges facing the development of China’s manufacturing industry.Promoting the rise of global value chain of manufacturing industry has become an important goal of China’s manufacturing industry development.Industrial agglomeration is the most significant spatial feature of production activities,which can not only exert the "scale effect" and significantly promote economic growth,but also bring into play the competitive advantage of a country,which is beneficial to the improvement of the global value chain status of manufacturing industry.Industrial agglomeration can give rise to technological spillover effects and promote technological progress;it can also generate "reputation mechanism" and upgrade consumer demand,thus having an effect on the global value chain of manufacturing industry.To enhance the status of global value chain,enhancing industrial agglomeration will become an important path that cannot be ignored.Previously,the 19 th Party Congress clearly emphasized the need to actively guide the development of domestic manufacturing industry in the direction of agglomeration,give full play to the industrial agglomeration power of domestic excellent manufacturing enterprises,and further improve the competitive advantage of Chinese industry in the global value chain.The 20 th Party Congress emphasized the importance of the development of strategic industrial agglomeration and the construction of a new group of growth engines related to new technologies,new energy and new materials.The electronics manufacturing industry,as a high precision industry,is an important sector of the manufacturing industry,but the current literature research results are more focused on the enhancement of China’s manufacturing industry agglomeration on the global value chain status,and few researchers have started empirical research on the topic of manufacturing segmentation aspects from the perspective of international level.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to promote the development of China’s manufacturing industry by studying the impact of industrial agglomeration on the global value chain position of electronic equipment manufacturing industry from the perspective of industrial agglomeration.In the research process of this paper,the author collected and sorted out the situation of 58 economic entities,statistically organized and studied their relevant data during the period from the beginning of 2002 to the end of 2018,and through empirical analysis,the following conclusions were drawn: first,through the fixed-effect model,it was found that industrial agglomeration has a significant positive effect on the improvement of the value chain status of the electronic equipment manufacturing industry,and passed the robustness test,proving that the conclusions are robust and reliable.Second,using the mediation effect,this paper shows that industrial agglomeration has a relatively large impact on promoting the upgrading of the global value chain status of the electronic equipment manufacturing industry through enhancing technological progress and upgrading consumption demand.Thirdly,we further bifurcate the sample and conduct a heterogeneity analysis,which shows that the contribution of industrial agglomeration to the global value chain position of electronic equipment manufacturing is more significant in developing countries than in developed countries,and in countries that are not members of the OECD than in countries that are members of the OECD.Based on the previous conclusions,this paper puts forward recommendations with reference significance based on three dimensions: national,industrial and enterprise,such as vigorously developing high-tech industries,promoting the industrial chain to a high level,extending the industrial chain outward,playing the spillover role of foreign direct investment,reducing production costs,improve the quality of foreign trade enterprises,build competitive industrial clusters,and improve the level of construction of R&D institutions.Finally,the research outlook is proposed for such research with a view to more mature research results.
