As information industry grows with the scientific and technological progress,China’s informatization is speeding.The digital and information-based transformation in all industries has boosted demand for infrastructure.As a basic production tool in the information age,the production,sales and penetration of computers are rising.Established in 1984 in China,L company is a global technology company focusing on PC.The Golden Key software developed by the after-sales service tools and platform team of L company is a professional software that provides after-sales maintenance and machine inspection for the service of L company.The scientific method of project management is not appropriately applied due to the short existence of the team,causing schedule slippage in the initial stage.Through the analysis of the development progress of Golden Key,this paper finds the problems existing in the progress management of Golden Key software development project.In view of the specific situation that leads to the backwardness of the project progress,the PERT method is used to re-estimate the project duration.Then,based on the critical chain method,the project buffer and the feeding buffer are calculated with the elastic coefficient method.Meanwhile the solution is worked out for resource buffer.The project schedule is also modified according to the buffer settings.The three-color method of buffer mechanism is deployed in monitoring the progress for the smooth-flowing project.The success in applying critical chain method for managing progress of Golden Key software development project suggests that this method is effective for guiding the Golden Key project as well as solving problems such as "student syndrome" and "Parkinson’s law" during the process.Combining the critical chain theory with the actual situation of L company,this paper creatively puts forward solutions to resource conflicts.By adding resource buffer to critical chain and utilizing the project buffer and the feeding buffer,project progress control is realized and then the time is shortened.The solution can also be applied in managing other software programs as L company develops its services.
