Driven by both information dissemination technology and Internet technology, media convergence has become a global trend."Convergence journalism" is the product of the internalization of the concept of media convergence in the practice of news dissemination.Looking at the current practice of convergence journalism with cell phones as the main information carrier, the vertical screen of cell phones has become the "stage" for convergence journalism to show its talent. The "vertical screen" equipped with a unique "underlying device" calls for different aesthetic characteristics and narrative system, which makes the vertical screen narrative of convergence news an issue to which we must respond. From the theoretical perspective of digital narrative, this study takes a "materiality" perspective on specific narrative practices and summarizes the aesthetic system of vertical screen narrative——single-screen images present a character-centered,vertically moving, and spatially small narrative in terms of content composition, scene scheduling, and narrative arrangement. In multi-screen graphic narratives, text and images play a role in establishing meaning and anchoring attention, respectively. It can be concluded that the image narrative presented in the vertical screen brings three relationships of immersion, attachment and equality to the audience, and the physical operations of users such as "swiping","pressing" and "turning" when reading news on the vertical screen are important to the narrative content. It is found that relying on the materiality of vertical screens,"remediation" narrative has become an important strategy for convergence news narrative language innovation,The vertical screen convergence journalism will be "remediated" in three ways: "media form","media language",and "media imagery".
