The " Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases " school-based curriculum is a module topic identified at the "Real-Life Applications" optional topic in the Biology Curriculum Standards for General High School(Revised 2020,2017 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as Curriculum Standards),which is designed to make students aware of the importance of the prevention of infectious diseases for social and economic development,and help them master the basic methods of prevention and control of infectious diseases,prepare them for social life and career development better.In order to develop an elective curriculum of the module " Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases " in a targeted way,this study would try to develop a school-based curriculum by combining the important concepts of secondary school biology.The study was divided into three parts:First,according to the curriculum development model and implementation path determined in the literature review,the topics,concepts,and questions set for the biology college entrance examination involving infectious diseases in the past three years by text analysis method.Based on the analysis results of the test questions,four thematic units of the " Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases " curriculum were generated;two big ideas,four important concepts and sixteen subordinate concepts together formed the curriculum concepts;a problem system consist of 10 core questions and several important questions.The curriculum topics,concepts,and questions determined set the framework for curriculum development initially.Second,interpret the suggestions given by Healthy Life,Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases,and Biological Issues in Social Hot Spots related to infectious diseases in the Curriculum Standards,and the objectives and contents of the curriculum were sorted out and designed based on the curriculum framework: set the overall goal of the curriculum based on the core literacy of biology,the core and important questions of the curriculum are decomposed into unit objectives and teaching objectives of the curriculum,therefore,four unit objectives and 12 teaching objectives are developed.Based on the proposals of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases given by the Curriculum Standards,four practical activities of the curriculum were designed;Select and organize the key content of the unit based on the concepts determined in the chapter 2.Further refining the subordinate concepts of the curriculum into specific concepts for each chapter of the curriculum.Guided by the specific concepts,the teaching plan and content for units teaching have been developed,with a total of 4 chapters and 11 sections,requiring 12 lessons.Then,using school-based textbook as a vehicle to achieve the objectives of the curriculum,referring to the style design of the high school biology textbook published by People’s Education Press,the school-based textbook Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases has been developed,with nine columns designed to present the curriculum content.Third,implementation and evaluation of the developed Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases curriculum.The single-group of pre and post-test experiment was used to implement the curriculum for 60 students in the second year of D middle school.The test paper was used to evaluate students’ knowledge of the curriculum,and to analyze the learning outcomes reflected in students’ poster works.This study initially developed Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases curriculum based on the concepts,and the relevant resources of the curriculum were obtained.The study concluded that,to develop the school-based curriculum for high school biology with the entrance examination questions as an entry point,we need to clarify the teaching requirements of the curriculum standards firstly,then analyze the entrance examination questions based on the requirements of curriculum standards.Extract the biology concepts from the curriculum standards of secondary school,and construct the curriculum question system from the test questions.Topics,concepts and questions are used to guide the development of curriculum objectives and contents.The practical results showed that the curriculum promotes the development of students and teachers,and provides a reference for secondary school biology teachers to start their practice with relevant curriculum resources in this study.
