| In recent years, the State Council has issued a series of preferential policies on grassroots employment and implemented many grassroots employment projects to guide and encourage university graduates to seek employment at the grassroots level. The Shanxi Provincial Government has also responded positively to the national call and issued policies on grassroots employment to support university graduates in Shanxi Province to seek employment at the grassroots level. However, the tough conditions and fewer jobs at the grassroots level in Shanxi Province, the preference of university graduates for employment in the eastern region and the weak awareness of grassroots employment have ultimately led to the policy effect not reaching the expected level. Therefore, there is an urgent need to clarify the current overall employment situation,to explore in depth the important factors affecting the willingness of college graduates in Shanxi Province to take up grassroots employment, and to help realise the policy guidelines on grassroots employment. This paper explores the influencing factors of grassroots employment intentions of university graduates in Shanxi Province through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods.Firstly, based on the social-ecological system theory, this paper selects knowledge level, skill level, general ability and health status as influencing factors in the micro(individual)system with the help of human capital theory, selects family socioeconomic status and family social relationship network as influencing factors in the meso(family)system with the help of social capital theory, and selects peer support, school support and policy support as influencing factors in the macro(social)system with the help of social support theory, and constructs a model by combining the above nine influencing factors.Secondly, empirical analysis was conducted using 384 valid questionnaire data with graduates from seven universities in Shanxi Province, and the results showed that university graduates’ willingness to go to the grassroots after graduation was not strong and was at a moderate to low level. There are differences in university graduates’ willingness for grassroots employment in terms of gender and type of household registration;university graduates’ knowledge level, skill level, overall ability, health status, family social network, peer support, school support and policy support have an impact on university graduates’ willingness for grassroots employment. Finally, based on empirical analysis and combined with interviews, this paper proposes corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for guiding university graduates to grassroots employment at three levels:individual, family and society.By enhancing university graduates’ willingness to work at the grassroots level and encouraging them to go there and take root, this is crucial to alleviating the current employment pressure, realising university students’ own values, implementing the rural revitalisation strategy and promoting grassroots construction and development. |
