The policy of "dual mitigation," as a presiding principle for resolving the scholastic encumbrance of elementary and high-school pupils in the contemporary epoch, has garnered substantial recognition in China. In this context, this article starts from school social work and focuses on analyzing the reasons for the changes in students’ autonomous learning situation in X Primary School before and after the implementation of the "double reduction" policy.Through interviews and participatory observations, social workers have found that X Primary School has higher requirements for students’ autonomous learning ability under new educational policies and the current problem of insufficient students’ autonomous learning ability.Based on this, social workers recruited 8 students from X Primary School to carry out a group to enhance students’ self-learning ability.Based on the theory of the Department of Sociology, they improved students’ self-learning ability from aspects such as learning habit cultivation, learning time planning, and learning interest stimulation.Afterwards,The present inquiry endeavors to comprehensively examine the efficacy of group activities via meticulous process and result evaluations. The outcomes evince that the execution of said activities has culminated in the augmentation of learners’ ardor for learning through the instigation of noticeable advancements among the various members of the collective unit.Afterwards, this article summarized and reflected on this group activity, and proposed suggestions from multiple perspectives such as schools, teachers, and parents to enhance students’ self-learning ability,in order to further implement the dual reduction policy and promote students’ healthy growth in X Primary School.
