The foundation of national governance is grassroots governance, and a fundamental initiative to achieve the modernization of the system and capacity for primary-level governance is the coordinated promotion of township(street)and urban and rural community government.Community workers are given more significant responsibilities and experience increased work stress as grassroots governance is modernized. This study develops an analytical framework of community workers’ work stress from the perspective of ecosystem theory based on the actual circumstances of community workers in S Street and the author’s unique observations at work. The study discovered that community workers, who are accountable for community governance, epidemic prevention and control, organizational work, administrative affairs, and other specific tasks in their daily work, face multi-level work stress, which manifests as follows:at the physiological level, physical fatigue and reduced physical function;at the psychological level, mental tension, lack of self-efficacy,and reduced professional identity;at the attitudinal and behavioral levels, negative attitudes and behaviors.Community workers experience a variety of sources of work stress. In the macrosystem, the organizational environment of grassroots government’s vertical management, the social environment of epidemic prevention and control, and the public opinion environment created by the media and the 12345 public service hotline all exert pressure on community workers. In the mesosystem system, the vertical assessment of communities by the S Street office and the horizontal "involution" among communities,on the one hand, are what put community workers under stress. On the other hand, due to the lack of community inhabitants’ awareness of and passion for participating in community issues.community workers must carry out major community initiatives, and assume control of the essential functions of community governance. In the microsystem, work overload and insufficient rest, nonexistent "overall community workers",inadequate competence, occupational gender segregation and role conflict, and unsatisfactory development space and pay,all of which are factors that contribute to the work stress of community workers. To lessen the work stress of community workers,in the macrosystem,we should encourage the separation of government and society to realize community autonomy, develop emergency plans to prevent emergencies, deepen positive publicity to improve social recognition, and increase the financial budget to improve community workers’ treatment. In the mesosystem,we should improve the humanistic treatment of community workers to improve the workplace environment, create platforms for communication across communities to foster assistance and sharing, and improve the training system to assist in team building. In the microsystem, community workers should face the pressures of their jobs and make self-adjustments,concentrate on independent learning and enhance their comprehensive ability, cultivate "overall community workers" and implement a compulsory vacation policy, and encourage the coordination of five social forces to create governance synergy.
